A local Instagram influencer has knocked the socks off absolutely no-one this evening by making homemade gnocchi for dinner. Whilst this achievement is mildly interesting in and of itself, it takes on a downright macabre character when you realise she has cooked it for roughly the eighth time this week.
Talking to her four followers on Instagram Live, Sarah Greene (23) agonisingly stepped through every stage of the gnocchi manufacturing process, including the existential crisis she had this morning over whether to make potato gnocchi or ricotta gnocchi.
In the end, it didn’t really matter, because she’d make the other one tomorrow!
Isolation is affecting everyone in different ways, and it’s perfectly healthy to throw yourself into cooking these Italian-influenced doughy pillows of savoury delight, particularly when paired with a delicious sauce you can get from Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers that was made by professionals.
But eight times a week? Come on. ‘Gnocch Gnocch. Who’s there? Originality. Oh, get out, I never want to see your face.’
Nevertheless, this influencer, an Environmental Management student who grew up in Newcastle, is pretty gutsy in her persistence, particularly as rival influencers turn to more diverse culinary creations such as pesto pasta (what?!), carrot cake (no way!?), and for one young Instagram star coming out of Canada, skinning and eating a whole caribou.
You’ll never believe it! But next time you have your followers watching along on live, and a HiSmile endorsement right around the corner, remember that there’s more to pasta than gnocchi.
And ‘brown butter sauce?’ Fuck off. It’s not a beurre noisette, you’ve literally just melted some butter. Leave it out in the sun, it’ll do the job for you.
Grow up and make a spag bol like a real Aussie.
No more to come.
